i've decided not to go to work today. yeah, it's friday and i'm still sick, so why bother. and i have to go look for a gift for joshua's birthday party tomorrow. i can honestly tell you i am not looking forward to driving out to moorpark tomorrow morning. not even because i'll be missing the beginning of the ucla game, but because it's out in freaking MOORPARK! where the hell is that anyway?
my main goal for today is to get better. which means i'll be nesting in front of the tv with my box of kleenex and a big mug of tea. but that seem like such a waste of time however. maybe, i'll ask jenny to go see a movie today at the laemmle. jenny and i have somewhat similar taste in movies. we went and watched, "man from elysian fields" on monday (when i went into work for a laughable one whole hour). she said she liked it a lot (a sentiment that she reiterated last night at the farmers' market). i had mixed feelings about it. it was an interesting film, especially with mick jagger's character. but i thought the film lacked something... i can't say what it is though. and by no means am i some film elitist; i'm just saying for me, the film lacked something. maybe that wasn't the greatest example of how jenny and i have similar tastes in movies, but fuck it, aren't we all different? another goal for today is to actually leave the house since i have things to do. 1) go to the post office and return "as time goes by" dvd back to playcentric.com because they gave me two disc 1's instead of discs 1 and 2, 2) go find an exciting dinosaur CD-ROM for joshua, 3) go get some 'tussin for my worsening cough, and 4) go get some fresh air. at this point you're probably asking, what the hell is "as time goes by?" all i'm going to say at this moment is that it is a bbc show that i'm terribly obsessed about. i'll tell you more on a rainy day, only if you behave like good little children. also, can i just tell you how happy i am about the upcoming release of "sportsnight" on dvd? it was actually one of the shows that christina and i enjoyed watching together; it's still a damn great show though. album/song of the day: too early for that my friends length of time stuck in traffic: NONE, so fuck you traffic gods!
i was already in bed, but i figured i needed to write something for today. inspiration being the OMD concert in Birmingham back in 1993. okay, not that i was at the concert or anything, but i was listening to "dream ticket" on the bbc and i just wanted to write about it.
OMD is one of my favorite bands. sure, they use a great deal of synth, which i not particularly keen on. however, they just have great pop songs and they are rather catchy. i mean can anyone tell me a better bitter love song than, "so in love?" granted, "yes" by butler and mcalmont is a pretty close second. both are equality great, but OMD continuously made great music from their inception in 1978 to paul leaving in the late 80's. and i have to say andy made several decent albums after that. i really enjoyed "sugar tax" and i think "liberator" was good (expecially the one sampling barry white's, "love's theme" - cathay pacific, the heart of asia) granted, i don't have all the OMD albums, but if you have their original discography, best of, etc... you'd know what i mean. every song on that album is fucking amazing. plain and simply, one of the best, "best of's" out there. but if i was forced to get an album, i would certainly get sugar tax. i believe that was the first album andy did without paul, and it's great (saved for that crappy apollo XI song - what the fuck is that?) just to let you in on a little secret, i get into these fucked up musical phases where i get so wrapped up into a certain artist or band, that i need to get my hands on everything he/she/they've done. example: i was in an OMD phase maybe a year and half ago, right after i came back from a horrendous trip to hong kong (painful memories of an ex-girlfriend), and i purchased the b-sides album. it wasn't particularly impressive (though i should give it another listen), but it was a signed copy by andy. so that was pretty cool. so for today (thursday), i was kinda on an OMD binge. and i figure i'll be tomorrow as well. who knows? album/song of the day: sugar tax by OMD length of time stuck in traffic: approx. 2.5 hours Thursday, October 10, 2002
okay, first real post... and most likely a very short once since i'm going to go to the SP farmer's market with jenny in a few minutes.
oh, she's here. |
