i had an absolutely weird day today.

i knew it was gonna be atypical when i got into my office and started doing actual work. it's unbelievable, i know. but i had to make some changes to this old-school data-entry program (using borland dbplus) for some student worker coming in tomorrow. and i had put it off for about a week now, so i figured that i would probably not work on it much after lunch, so i might as well get started on it.

and inbetween the modifications, i wrote this. i know, so what was a weird day, started to get even worse because i was actually thinking of helsinki (a very bad sign, a very bad sign indeed). the rub? i've been thinking about her for several months now. it's been so long, but i still think about her, which is one big fucking PROBLEM.

furthermore, now i'm kinda stressed out about what i want to do with my life. i went around asking kimmy and bk about it. would i make a good lawyer (barrister, if i was in england), or should i really study forensic psychology like kimmy had suggested? bk said, "oh, you can do whatever you set your mind to do." to which i replied, "that's very generic, and completely useless for me." i went back to see if the career centre at UCLA have those career aptitude tests and they did. unfortunately, it's a ridiculous $475 for a year's worth of consultation. "fuck that noise!" i say.

around mid-afternoon, i started reading some of the past emails from helsi on my yahoo account (as luck would have it, the account started working again). revisiting those corresponding emails put me in an even weirder mood. i can't believe it's been over a year since i've last seen helsi. i remember when we were first together, and she went away to europe for two weeks, i missed her so much, it was very uncomforting. good times, good times.

and to top it all off, i discovered that i have a very strong passion for masking tape...

FrXxxXxXXx (5:00:52 PM): do you think rite aid sells masking tape?
CaxxxxXxxx (5:00:56 PM): yes
FrXxxXxXXx (5:01:06 PM): for a fact?
CaxxxxXxxx (5:01:10 PM): no
FrXxxXxXXx (5:01:14 PM): hmm... i c
CaxxxxXxxx (5:01:20 PM): You can call them, I guess.
FrXxxXxXXx (5:01:24 PM): of all the tapes, i like masking tape the best
CaxxxxXxxx (5:01:32 PM): it has its uses.
CaxxxxXxxx (5:01:36 PM): you can't use it to wrap presents, though
FrXxxXxXXx (5:01:49 PM): well, you
could
FrXxxXxXXx (5:01:52 PM): hahahaha
CaxxxxXxxx (5:01:52 PM): or to repair a torn printed page.
CaxxxxXxxx (5:01:55 PM): right, but it would look stupid.
FrXxxXxXXx (5:02:01 PM): yeah, it would
FrXxxXxXXx (5:02:04 PM): but you could
FrXxxXxXXx (5:02:05 PM): :-)
CaxxxxXxxx (5:02:08 PM): yeah
FrXxxXxXXx (5:02:17 PM): well scotch is cool too
FrXxxXxXXx (5:02:23 PM): but masking tape is so underrated
CaxxxxXxxx (5:02:24 PM): haha
CaxxxxXxxx (5:02:28 PM): you're very strange.
FrXxxXxXXx (5:02:41 PM): why? cuz i rate my tapes?
FrXxxXxXXx (5:02:44 PM): hahaha
CaxxxxXxxx (5:02:50 PM): just a strange discussion
FrXxxXxXXx (5:03:33 PM): well if dante* loves his duct tape, then i certainly can pick masking tape as my tape of choice
CaxxxxXxxx (5:03:42 PM): sure
FrXxxXxXXx (5:03:42 PM): or was it jeniro?
CaxxxxXxxx (5:03:51 PM): I don't know.
CaxxxxXxxx (5:03:53 PM): Boner likes tape.
CaxxxxXxxx (5:04:00 PM): duct tape, too, at least in the past.
CaxxxxXxxx (5:04:11 PM): now he likes strapping tape.
FrXxxXxXXx (5:04:33 PM): never heard of strapping tape
FrXxxXxXXx (5:04:34 PM): what is it?
CaxxxxXxxx (5:04:44 PM): it's a clear tape with string in it, basically.
CaxxxxXxxx (5:04:51 PM): string running lengthwise in the tape
CaxxxxXxxx (5:04:58 PM): provides strength.
CaxxxxXxxx (5:05:05 PM): so it's hard to tear
CaxxxxXxxx (5:05:20 PM): normally used for packing.
CaxxxxXxxx (5:05:27 PM): taping boxes
FrXxxXxXXx (5:06:36 PM): ah...
FrXxxXxXXx (5:06:48 PM): if i think i know what you're talking about, then i think i hate those tape
CaxxxxXxxx (5:06:55 PM): i c
FrXxxXxXXx (5:07:03 PM): or that kind of tape
FrXxxXxXXx (5:07:18 PM): is it bumpy because of the string?
CaxxxxXxxx (5:07:30 PM): well, yeah, I guess it causes a ridge.
CaxxxxXxxx (5:07:32 PM): ridges.
CaxxxxXxxx (5:07:38 PM): why do you hate it?
FrXxxXxXXx (5:08:22 PM): probably cuz of the ridges
CaxxxxXxxx (5:08:35 PM): um, ok
FrXxxXxXXx (5:13:40 PM): i think i'm definitely going to get some masking tape tonight
FrXxxXxXXx (5:13:48 PM): i think it'll be good for me
CaxxxxXxxx (5:15:04 PM): do you have a use for this tape?
CaxxxxXxxx (5:15:09 PM): or do you just have some weird fascination?
FrXxxXxXXx (5:15:32 PM): yeah, you think i'm a masking tape nut or something?
CaxxxxXxxx (5:15:38 PM): yeah
FrXxxXxXXx (5:16:08 PM): the masking tape will be used, and used brilliantly i say
CaxxxxXxxx (5:16:32 PM): ok
CaxxxxXxxx (5:16:41 PM): you god damn freak
FrXxxXxXXx (5:16:53 PM): yeah, but i'll have masking tape

* names have been changed to protect those who display affection for masking, duct, or strapping tape

so there you go, a very strange day to go with a very strange pick for song of the day.

song/album of the day: "little by little" by (a band i don't particularly like, but this is a good song) oasis.

time stuck in traffic: 15 minutes. (traffic was so horrible on the way home, that i took shelter at rob's place)
