i promise one of these days i'm going to sit down for an hour and write down what i've been doing the pass month. *sigh* so much to do, and so little time not to do them.

peeps...

went to see the pianist today. it was pretty good; i didn't know chopin wrote such wonderful music. it was however kinda graphic in its depictions of how the nazis ruthlessly slaughtering the jews though. i'm not saying that it didn't happen that way, but basically it was graphic and i wasn't expecting it. i think adrien brody did a bloody marvelous job.

i got a computer desk finally, but it's from target and the screws don't exactly fit in their proper pre-made holes. *sigh* fucking target. i did get two plants from osh though. they look very nice sitting upon my coffee table and my bookcase. oh, i also got some spray to get rid of those damn whiteflies that had set up residence on my hibiscus plant in the porch.

man, there's still so much house work to deal with right now... arrgh! i'm never going to finish this tonight. my schedule is so fucked!

hello people,

gosh, it's been ages since i've last updated my blog. sorry about that. been busy fixing up the house. a fresh coat of paint, moving out some furniture, putting together new ikea furniture, etc. i'm almost done. just need to go get a computer desk, and i should be good.

so i was suppose to talk about how i had this emotional epiphany several weeks ago concerning helsinki*. i finally feel relieved that i'm not pining over her any longer. how did i get here? well, as you know, i've been emailing her about her brother and mother and we were suppose to go have coffee. well she said that she was busy and that maybe we should have lunch instead. i emailed her back saying that i usually work through lunch and she should email me when she had a more laxed schedule. it was at this point that i began to re-read all her emails to me since my last trip to hk several years ago. as i was muddling through them, i slowly came to the realization that she was a FUCKING BITCH. i couldn't believe how i could have missed it. but let's just say, i'm finally over it. praise the lord!

so the last couple of weeks, i've been feeling pretty good. i even said yes to go out on a blind date with one of gordon's (kimmy's husband) co-worker. of course, since i haven't gone out on a date in years, i'm a little nervous. but we'll see how it goes. i'm not really looking to get into a relationship. i think i'm just too drained (read: lazy) to deal with another person. but i think it'll be good for me. so i hope it'll all go well.

tonight (saturday) we went to maggiano's out at the grove for pat's birthday dinner. it was really good! unfortunately, there was a lot of dairy to be had, and i'm feeling the effects of it right now. hahaha. we ended up doing it family style (5-course dinner with appetizers, salads, pastas, main courses, and desserts - two dishes each), which was also all you can eat.

- we started out with three appetizers, stuffed mushrooms (okay, kinda bland), fried zucchini (so-so, too much breading, not enough zucchini), and calamari (my favorite one of the appetizers, not rubbery).
- then we had a salad, it would have been two salads, but we traded one in to get an extra appetizer. it was some sort of spinach salad with bacon bits and an apple dressing, not too bad.
- we had two pastas: one was the old standby, spaghetti with meat balls (decent, you can't really go wrong with that) and the mostaccioli (very good, but VERY creamy).
- next came the main courses, first we had the beef medallions (it was amazing. meat so tender and silky... nearly melted in my mouth) and the salmon (very good too).
- for dessert we had the creme brulee (not very good) and profiteroles (vanilla ice-cream was great, pastry shell bad). susan brought a b-day cake for pat as well, but since i was so incredibly full, i didn't have any.

so check out their menu here, i would definitely recommend this place to anyone. i think my favorites of the night were the beef medallions and the calamari. needless to say, dinner was pretty expensive.

i met several of pat's friend from work, ilan and audie. pretty funny guys, cracked me up throughout the night. it was pat and susan, char, elan, eudie, peter and myself for dinner. afterwards, we went to molly malones, an irish pub, several blocks down from the grove. peter didn't go; he doesn't drink. there we met up with audie's girlfriend, joanna. she's clark's (one of pat's other friend) sister. what a small world, eh? anyway, i thought she was very pretty, not too bad on the eyes. char and i gave pat a chinese-style sword for his b-day. he liked it, and it was actually a pretty cool looking sword. we stayed for an hour or so, and then left early. i think we both weren't feeling too well after dinner (being latose intolerant and all). :) i hope pat had a good time, given that most of the dorkz are in vegas right now and it was just us celebrating his b-day with him.

wow, it's almost 2am (i thought it was more like 12:30am), i should really get to bed and sleep of the pain in my tummy. i wonder how the folks are doing in vegas. it's funny how people ask me why i'm not in vegas with them. i don't think i have a particular reason... maybe to save money. but i don't really gamble and don't care about going to a place that i've been to several times in the last year. i guess maybe later in the year. so tomorrow, char and i will go see the pianist (finally) and i'll finish up on revamping the house. i need to find out how much room i'll have for the computer desk and maybe go over to target or office depot to look for one. then maybe to best buy to get one of those cd shelves. oh, i hope i'll be finished with this whole house redecorating thing by the weekend's end.

hope everyone is doing well.

i'm tired, so i'll keep it short.

here is mark's rebuttal to my entry further lambasting julia stiles two days ago. well, guess what? i will now provide you with two (count them, TWO) photos of julia and let you decide if mark's on acid or if julia stiles is truly just that damn UGLY.

**** WARNING ****

i take no responsibility, whatsoever, for any problems or complications you accrued after viewing the following. if you choke on your ham sandwich like mama cass or if you fall off of your chair and proceed to throw up like the first george bush, you have only yourself to blame.

"don't you want to punch me in the face?"

be afraid... be very afraid.

then there's this article on cnn about stealing julia stiles' looks. how about stealing julia stiles, and doing us a favor and never giving her back?

i had an absolutely weird day today.

i knew it was gonna be atypical when i got into my office and started doing actual work. it's unbelievable, i know. but i had to make some changes to this old-school data-entry program (using borland dbplus) for some student worker coming in tomorrow. and i had put it off for about a week now, so i figured that i would probably not work on it much after lunch, so i might as well get started on it.

and inbetween the modifications, i wrote this. i know, so what was a weird day, started to get even worse because i was actually thinking of helsinki (a very bad sign, a very bad sign indeed). the rub? i've been thinking about her for several months now. it's been so long, but i still think about her, which is one big fucking PROBLEM.

furthermore, now i'm kinda stressed out about what i want to do with my life. i went around asking kimmy and bk about it. would i make a good lawyer (barrister, if i was in england), or should i really study forensic psychology like kimmy had suggested? bk said, "oh, you can do whatever you set your mind to do." to which i replied, "that's very generic, and completely useless for me." i went back to see if the career centre at UCLA have those career aptitude tests and they did. unfortunately, it's a ridiculous $475 for a year's worth of consultation. "fuck that noise!" i say.

around mid-afternoon, i started reading some of the past emails from helsi on my yahoo account (as luck would have it, the account started working again). revisiting those corresponding emails put me in an even weirder mood. i can't believe it's been over a year since i've last seen helsi. i remember when we were first together, and she went away to europe for two weeks, i missed her so much, it was very uncomforting. good times, good times.

and to top it all off, i discovered that i have a very strong passion for masking tape...

FrXxxXxXXx (5:00:52 PM): do you think rite aid sells masking tape?
CaxxxxXxxx (5:00:56 PM): yes
FrXxxXxXXx (5:01:06 PM): for a fact?
CaxxxxXxxx (5:01:10 PM): no
FrXxxXxXXx (5:01:14 PM): hmm... i c
CaxxxxXxxx (5:01:20 PM): You can call them, I guess.
FrXxxXxXXx (5:01:24 PM): of all the tapes, i like masking tape the best
CaxxxxXxxx (5:01:32 PM): it has its uses.
CaxxxxXxxx (5:01:36 PM): you can't use it to wrap presents, though
FrXxxXxXXx (5:01:49 PM): well, you
could
FrXxxXxXXx (5:01:52 PM): hahahaha
CaxxxxXxxx (5:01:52 PM): or to repair a torn printed page.
CaxxxxXxxx (5:01:55 PM): right, but it would look stupid.
FrXxxXxXXx (5:02:01 PM): yeah, it would
FrXxxXxXXx (5:02:04 PM): but you could
FrXxxXxXXx (5:02:05 PM): :-)
CaxxxxXxxx (5:02:08 PM): yeah
FrXxxXxXXx (5:02:17 PM): well scotch is cool too
FrXxxXxXXx (5:02:23 PM): but masking tape is so underrated
CaxxxxXxxx (5:02:24 PM): haha
CaxxxxXxxx (5:02:28 PM): you're very strange.
FrXxxXxXXx (5:02:41 PM): why? cuz i rate my tapes?
FrXxxXxXXx (5:02:44 PM): hahaha
CaxxxxXxxx (5:02:50 PM): just a strange discussion
FrXxxXxXXx (5:03:33 PM): well if dante* loves his duct tape, then i certainly can pick masking tape as my tape of choice
CaxxxxXxxx (5:03:42 PM): sure
FrXxxXxXXx (5:03:42 PM): or was it jeniro?
CaxxxxXxxx (5:03:51 PM): I don't know.
CaxxxxXxxx (5:03:53 PM): Boner likes tape.
CaxxxxXxxx (5:04:00 PM): duct tape, too, at least in the past.
CaxxxxXxxx (5:04:11 PM): now he likes strapping tape.
FrXxxXxXXx (5:04:33 PM): never heard of strapping tape
FrXxxXxXXx (5:04:34 PM): what is it?
CaxxxxXxxx (5:04:44 PM): it's a clear tape with string in it, basically.
CaxxxxXxxx (5:04:51 PM): string running lengthwise in the tape
CaxxxxXxxx (5:04:58 PM): provides strength.
CaxxxxXxxx (5:05:05 PM): so it's hard to tear
CaxxxxXxxx (5:05:20 PM): normally used for packing.
CaxxxxXxxx (5:05:27 PM): taping boxes
FrXxxXxXXx (5:06:36 PM): ah...
FrXxxXxXXx (5:06:48 PM): if i think i know what you're talking about, then i think i hate those tape
CaxxxxXxxx (5:06:55 PM): i c
FrXxxXxXXx (5:07:03 PM): or that kind of tape
FrXxxXxXXx (5:07:18 PM): is it bumpy because of the string?
CaxxxxXxxx (5:07:30 PM): well, yeah, I guess it causes a ridge.
CaxxxxXxxx (5:07:32 PM): ridges.
CaxxxxXxxx (5:07:38 PM): why do you hate it?
FrXxxXxXXx (5:08:22 PM): probably cuz of the ridges
CaxxxxXxxx (5:08:35 PM): um, ok
FrXxxXxXXx (5:13:40 PM): i think i'm definitely going to get some masking tape tonight
FrXxxXxXXx (5:13:48 PM): i think it'll be good for me
CaxxxxXxxx (5:15:04 PM): do you have a use for this tape?
CaxxxxXxxx (5:15:09 PM): or do you just have some weird fascination?
FrXxxXxXXx (5:15:32 PM): yeah, you think i'm a masking tape nut or something?
CaxxxxXxxx (5:15:38 PM): yeah
FrXxxXxXXx (5:16:08 PM): the masking tape will be used, and used brilliantly i say
CaxxxxXxxx (5:16:32 PM): ok
CaxxxxXxxx (5:16:41 PM): you god damn freak
FrXxxXxXXx (5:16:53 PM): yeah, but i'll have masking tape

* names have been changed to protect those who display affection for masking, duct, or strapping tape

hello people,

oversleeping is really bad. it got me really disoriented this morning. someone from the VA called (found out later it was kimmy) and i was like, damn, why is someone calling before my alarm? well i got up and checked, and it was 11:43am. i had to rush myself off to work, which sucked cuz i didn't get to have breakfast. but driving to work at noon wasn't too shabby. not too much traffic, but just more stupid people driving. driving school instructors should really teach their students how to MERGE properly. it's called MERGING, not braking to a near complete stop and then turning into the next lane. seriously, fuck people, learn how to drive properly!

a couple of my friends went up to mammoth to snowboard. jason was nice enough to post the pictures that he took (which made me wonder how, with all his falling and stuff, he was able to keep from destroying his digital camera?) and i think he got a little tired of writing captions for them towards the end there. he'll probably tell you he couldn't come up with anything, but i know better. it looks so nice up there in mammoth that i wish i had gone. DAMN IT!

apparently mark took umbrage at me for "dissing" the visually unpleasing, julia stiles, last week. all i have to say is that i'm not alone in thinking that julie stiles is repugnant... oh i'm not. rob (yeah, the same rob you see to your left), mark's house-mate for several years now, totally agree with me on the whole julie stiles thing. here's what transpired on AIM today.

naxxxxxxxx (3:40:41 PM): dude...*
naxxxxxxxx (3:53:57 PM): heehee... I read marks journal about what you said about julia stiles...
naxxxxxxxx (3:54:02 PM): I'm with you on that one!
FrXxxXxXXx (3:55:22 PM): thank you!
FrXxxXxXXx (3:55:39 PM): oh man, i was worried that i was the only one. but christ man, i can't stand to look at her
naxxxxxxxx (3:55:51 PM): no way dude... she's heinous!
naxxxxxxxx (3:56:37 PM): it's the giant forehead
FrXxxXxXXx (3:57:45 PM): ahahaha
FrXxxXxXXx (3:57:53 PM): thank you
FrXxxXxXXx (3:57:58 PM): oh, i'm so happy now
FrXxxXxXXx (3:57:59 PM): hahaha
FrXxxXxXXx (3:58:03 PM): i'm not alone in the world
naxxxxxxxx (3:58:35 PM): does everyone else think she's hot?
FrXxxXxXXx (3:58:46 PM): i'm not sure
FrXxxXxXXx (3:58:52 PM): all i know is that mark's like in love with her
naxxxxxxxx (3:59:02 PM): yeah.. well mark has really bad taste
naxxxxxxxx (3:59:15 PM): I rarely agree with him on these matters

* apparently having lived with mark for too long, rob's beginning to go nuts on the use of ellipses.

song/album of the day: "electrical storm" by U2

time stuck in traffic: 35 minutes, a wee-bit o' traffic driving home.

Tuesday, January 14, 2003
hello people,

driving into work today, i saw another big rig slowing down traffic. this time it was on the 10W, inbetween the 405N interchange and the national exit. not sure what happened, but let's just say, the grey sedan took one hell of a beating from the big rig. my guess is that the sedan was trying to get on the 405S interchange, and cut off the big rig, but didn't make it. so traffic was backed up quite a bit and i was stuck in traffic for about 20 minutes... going very slow.

a very worrying trend i've noticed lately. when i first get into bed, it's all very good and all very nice. i have my flat sheet perfectly placed beneath the comforter. however, when i wake up, the flat sheet is off to one side, all wrinkled up like enuzio that's on my bed. maybe i'm a violent sleeper? i don't know, but i don't like it. speaking of which, my new comforter is here. i ordered it last week and it's already here. i'm letting it "breath" right now. it's a king-sized, which means i'll have to go get a new duvet for it. but it was $100 less than the comforter i got at bed, bath and beyond. i wouldn't have gotten a new one, even though it costed an arm and a leg, but i didn't like how light the bbb comforter was. i like the comforter to be heavy. anyway, i got two more pillows with the comforter (it was a set), so i saved $12 on pillows (returned the pillows i got from the strouds outlet).

i've been thinking of getting a digital camera. but the one i want, the canon s230 (digital elph) is still too expensive for what i wanted to spend. and i don't feel like getting one that's lesser in price cuz i want all the latest gadgets fitted into a very small camera. so i guess i'll be part of the waiting game. but with two automobile "accidents" occurring on adjacent days, i'm beginning to think i need to get a camera immediately to capture the (how shall i put this?) "stupidity" of people driving in LA.

song/album of the day: "someone, somewhere in summertime" by simple minds (simply because it sounds so european during the winter time, of course).

time stuck in traffic: 50 minutes, drive home wasn't too bad.

Monday, January 13, 2003
hello people,

i'm at work right now, and yeah, just as i'd expected... work sucks shit.

oh and due to some firewall at work, i'm not able to publish this to my ucla website. see that's TWO strikes against work.

[later that day]

now i'm home, and it's all very wonderful. i just went to vons and picked up some frozen foods for lunch. $2.50 each, not bad. better than going out to eat. but of course it's fattening. i need to remind myself to cook lunches during the weekends. i'm just plan lazy.

this is what i got:

2 swanson's hungrymen dinners (mexican fiesta)
2 swanson's hungrymen dinners (salisbury steak)
2 stouffer's classics (fish filet)
2 stouffer's pot pies (turkey)

very unhealthy. definitely.

HI SANDHYA - you are now in my blog. but unless you come down for a visit, i really have nothing to talk about that includes you. oh, i was watching "60 minutes " last night, and they were talking about IIT (Indian Institute of Technology), which i figured to be india's equivalent of CalTech or MIT. it's pretty interesting. apparently, it's really hard to get into, and you can't "bribe" your way into it either. you have to be smart, and the courses are very intensitive. the "bill gates" of india, whose name i didn't catch (i started watching after the introduction), founded the school (i'm guessing) and his son couldn't get in, so instead he (the son) went to cornell instead. one guy, who graduated from IIT, said that when he went to the states for his graduate degree (at an ivy league school), he breezed through all his course work cuz it was less strenuous then what was being taught at IIT. imagine that!

my father called me tonight, and asked me to go visit mum and him over in hk later in the month for chinese new year. i'm kinda hestitant about it, cuz i don't particularly like to go back to hk cuz it sucks. not in a bad way, but just that i've been there several times, and it's becoming less exciting. i would, however, like to go back and visit my paternal grandmother's grave. she'd passed away for a little over a year now and i still haven't visited her to pay my respect. also, my parents just got a new flat in hk, and they've raved about the view there (overlooking the harbour and it's supposedly gorgeous at night). i was thinking of going back, but i really wanted to do it later in the year, not this soon. i'm just really stingy about my vacation hours. i want to max out on them so i can get a day's vacation every month. that would be very nice. anyway, i guess i'll go, since there's a lot of celebrating over the new year, and i'll get some money (whoop-di-do)!

i got a new softball glove yesterday at sports chalet up in la canada. it's a pretty decent glove. i didn't want to spend too much money on it, given that i don't know how much i'll be using it. but it's always good to have a glove to play catch with. hmm... now i'm kinda pissed. it's listed as $49.99 online, but i got it for $59.99 at the store. i'm going to have to call them tomorrow and see what the fuck is up with that shit.

song/album of the day: "what i go to school for" by busted (it's some english boy band, but this song is funny as shit. a little teacher/student love if you will)

time stuck in traffic: about 60 minutes. some big rig carrying cars, stopped in the right lane on the 110N because it couldn't clear the overpass. stupid truck drivers.

Sunday, January 12, 2003
hello people,

okay, regarding julia stiles... she looks pretty good in adverts for "a guy thing." but still i think she is fucking ugly everywhere else.

this weekend has been a wash. i've done nothing, and i planned to do something. not something like for fun, but like errands and researching for grad schools. but nope, i've been watching john frankenheimer's commentary of "ronin," a film he made in 1998. the movie is actually pretty good, very exciting chase scenes, a great plot, superb acting from robert de niro, jean reno, and stellan skarsgÄrd. anyway, i didn't know that frankenheimer died last year, and to make it even more strange, he died on my birthday. isn't that just fucked up?

so now i'm watching frank mccourt's commentary on "angela's ashes," which is easily one of the saddest, but also triumph movies out there. if you've never read the book or seen the movie, i suggest that you do so. rent the movie first and then read the book, you'd be glad that you did.

yesterday i went to workout for the first time in a long time. needless to say, i was pathetic with the weights, but surprisingly adequate with the cardio (biking, stair-climbing, swimming). so now i just need to make sure that i go often enough because i want my jawline back!

where the fuck is mark, he's suppose to call me for lunch today, and i'm sitting here cold and fucking hungry. i think i'm going to go read the paper in bed. so have a good sunday everyone, and i'm so not looking forward to work... oh lord, i'm not.

Wednesday, January 08, 2003
hello people,

one question. why is julia stiles still acting? she's so damn fucking ugly. and yes, that's all i'm basing this on; her looks. sorry, but i would never watch any of her movies because i would want to rip my eyes out within the first 2 minutes of those films. problem being she's in this new movie called, "a guy thing," with jason lee. i really enjoy jason's movies. gotta love what he did with the banky character in "chasing amy." and i really like him in "kissing a fool." (btw, mili avital is hot) come on, the scene where banky was at the train station and showing some little kid some nice pictures depicting bestiality? that's a hoot!

bonnie hunt is pretty good looking. yeah, i know. she's old and stuff, but i think she looks good for her age.

movies i need to watch: "the pianist," "two weeks notice" (i LOVE hugh grant).
movies on dvd i'm thinking of getting: "the good girl" (i LOVE jennifer aniston) and "about a boy" (did i mention how much i LOVE hugh grant?). am i ever going to get the special edition "notting hill" dvd? mark? come on. :)

i've been wondering how christina's been doing lately. what the fuck is wrong with me? i hate how i keep getting stuck on people for such a long period of time. i'm just really silly.

before i forget, here are some pictures that carlin and jason took at the new year's eve party at jason's/mark's/rob's place in culver city. i really should think about losing some weight. where the fuck did my jawbone go?

if you're interested in learning what the latest going-ons with MORRISSEY is... click here. otherwise, you might be interested in learning about this. i don't care what morrissey says, i don't think jobriath is all that great.

song/album of the day: "i'll sail this ship alone" by the beautiful south

time stuck in traffic: about 45 minutes. damn the 110N!
